Should I stay with Oreo on new XZ1C?
I will be receiving a new XZ1C in a few days, and hopefully it will be fully functional and running Android Oreo. To judge by the many problems that many have experienced after upgrading to Pie, I am wondering whether I should hold off and stay with Oreo for the time being. I would hope that Sony releases a better version of Oreo by the time it's made available to the USA. Comments?

When updating to a newer cookie version (like from Oreo to Pie), it is advised that you perform a clean installation using the Software Repair option in Xperia Companion software.

Personally - I'm staying with Android 8. Had my XZ1 Compact almost a year. Only thing is that I haven't had a security update since September. From my experience, you can't bypass further security updates without downloading all previous ones. Therefore you may have to download the Android 9 version along the way. I won't be downloading ANY future updates. I think Sony should at least communicate with customers... whilst they still have some. 💥

Thanks for the replies. Initially I'll set up the phone very simply and test that everything is working properly. Ultimately I will want to update to 9.0 in order to keep the security up-to-date. So if, after resetting the phone and updating, there are a lot of problems, back the phone goes (before the initial 30 days after purchase is up). In my opinion, the phone consists of its hardware and software, and if one or the other is defective, then there's a problem.

I've updated my XZ1C to pie last weekend via OTA, so far no problem at all.
By the way, I did a hard reset before the OTA update and install all my apps after upgraded to pie, not sure if this helps....

Thanks, SenXEK, that's an encouraging data point. As noted above, I will be setting it up the same way, so I'll hope for the best.

Hi Pseudonym,
How did you get on, did you update to Pie in the way SenXek suggested ?
It will be interesting to hear your feedback.
Thanks
